HARRISBURG – Reps. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) and Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) announced today that state funds have been secured to repair Virgin Run Lake in Fayette County.

A total of $23.8 million in state funding will go toward repairing 10 hazardous dams managed by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, including Virgin Run Lake.

“This is great news for our district and surrounding areas,” said Cook. “Virgin Run Lake provides our community with fun and recreational activities. Ensuring it is safe and up-to-date is vital to continue to encourage community involvement.”

“One of the best things about our region is all the outdoor recreation opportunities we have,” Warner said. “It is important to maintain these opportunities for current and future generations.”

This funding assistance is for dams that are nearing the end of their designed structural lifespans. Proactive rehabilitation or replacement of these dams is intended to reduce potential failures, prevent substantial property damage, and increase protections for recreation.

Virgin Lake Run will remain open to public fishing, boating and other recreation during the design and permitting phases, which are expected to take several years. Construction timelines may vary based upon design, permitting, funding and environmental considerations.
