Warner Welcomes Connellsville High School Trap Team to State House
9/25/2018

Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) honored the Connellsville High School Trap Team on the House Floor today, Sept. 24, recognizing its state championship win in June with a cumulative score of 473.
HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) honored the Connellsville High School Trap Team on the House Floor today, Sept. 24, recognizing its state championship win in June with a cumulative score of 473.

“I was honored to introduce this team on the House floor today for this remarkable accomplishment, as its members have achieved this state championship win after only competing officially as a team for two seasons,” said Warner. “I want to also congratulate Head Coach Ken Brooks and assistant coaches, Dr. Paul Means, John Maddas, Lee DeMarco, John Martin and Nate Lilley, for their part in leading this incredible team to victory during their last season.”

Student athletes Wesley Cramer, John Maddas, Charlie Martin, Bobby McLuckey, Leon Mowry III and Michael Wascak were Connellsville’s top scorers of the competition.

Michael Wascak finished with the best score of the night and was named “High Gun”, which is the equivalent to a Most Valued Player honor. He and John Maddas were selected to compete on the All-State team.

The trap team consists of 57 members, in which 50 of those members were able to compete in the state championship. The members of the team are divided up into classifications (varsity, junior varsity and novice) and the top shooters’ scores are collected. The team with the highest cumulative score among its top five shooters is declared the state champion.
