Warner Says DNCR Grants Awarded to Fayette and Westmoreland Counties for Area Redevelopment Projects

LEMONT FURNACE – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) announced that grants were given to both Fayette and Westmoreland counties from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to help fund area redevelopment projects throughout the 52nd Legislative District.

These grants come from DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnership Program and are a part of a $50 million investment for 280 projects across Pennsylvania that will create new recreational opportunities, conserve natural resources and help revitalize local communities.

“These development projects are highly important to our communities across the 52nd Legislative District as they provide these communities the opportunity to renovate and improve surrounding areas, making them functional and attractive to the public,” said Warner. “I am pleased that our district has received these grants as it will definitely aid in these projects being completed.”

Listed below are the grants awarded to Fayette and Westmoreland counties:

Fayette County

• Fayette County, $30,000, prepare master site development plans for the 134.5-acre German-Masontown Park in Masontown Borough and the 166.8-acre Dunlap Creek Park in Menallen Township.

• Franklin Township, $91,000, further development of Franklin Community Park, Franklin Township. Work to include construction of pedestrian walkways and parking area; ADA access, landscaping, project and other related site improvements.

Fayette, Somerset and Westmorland Counties

• Saltlick Township, $52,000, prepare a river conservation plan for the Upper Youghiogheny River Watershed.

Westmoreland County

• Derry Township Municipal Authority, $500,000, development of the Loyalhanna Trail in Derry and Salem townships and New Alexandria Borough. Work to include construction of approximately 3.88 miles of trail from New Alexandria Borough Municipal Park to Keystone State Park, two trailheads and seven bridges; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• Hempfield Township, $369,000, further development of Hempfield Park, Hempfield Township. Work to include construction of a pavilion, concession stand, comfort station parking area and walkways; installation of playground equipment with required safety surfacing and utilities; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• Latrobe-Unity Youngstown Parks and Recreation Commission, $186,000, rehabilitation and further development of two park sites in Latrobe. Rehabilitation and further development of Legion Keener Park. Work to include renovation of basketball, tennis and volleyball courts; construction of pedestrian walkways, access drive and parking area; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing and fencing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements. Rehabilitation and further development of 1st Ward Playground. Work to include renovation of basketball courts and ballfield; construction of pedestrian walkways and parking area; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other site improvements.

• South Greensburg Borough, $99,000, rehabilitation of Sheridan Avenue Playground. Work to include renovation of comfort station; construction of parking area; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• Westmoreland County, $216,000, rehabilitation and further development of Twin Lakes County Park, Unity Township. Work to include construction of pedestrian walkways, comfort station, parking area and stormwater management measures; installation of play equipment with required safety surfacing, septic system and utilities; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

• Westmoreland County, $30,000, prepare a trail study for the development of approximately 4 miles of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in the Municipality of Murrysville, Salem Township, and Export and Delmont boroughs.

• Westmoreland County, $320,000, development of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in the Municipality of Murrysville and Export Borough. Work to include construction of approximately 3.3 miles of trail from Roberts Trail Access in Murrysville to Lincoln Avenue in Export Borough, trailhead and stormwater management measures; ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other related site improvements.

DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation builds connections between citizens and the outdoors by providing funding and technical assistance support for local recreation and park improvement projects through its Community Conservation Partnerships Program grants.
