Dowling, Warner Announce $127,050 in State Funding Awarded to Fayette and Westmoreland Counties
UNIONTOWN – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) and Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) announced that a $127,050 Business-Education Partnership Grant has been awarded to the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Development Board.

The grant will be used for a demonstration project using technology and hands-on interactive STEM and computer education workshops that prepare students for career and post-secondary education through classroom and work-based learning opportunities. The project will assist employers in implementing work-and-learn models in their organizations and will support K-12 career exploration activities for students, teachers and parents. Six-hundred K-12 students in Fayette and Westmoreland counties will be served through this project.

“This grant is an important investment in enhancing the career and technical education opportunities for area students,” said Dowling. “We need to raise awareness about all career options, which is why I’m reintroducing my legislation to identify and incentivize training for high priority occupations.”

Business-Education Partnership programs provide opportunities to connect local businesses with school districts to promote job opportunities and career pathways. These programs increase awareness of in-demand technical careers for students, parents, guardians, teachers and school faculty.

“Preparing our children to succeed in adulthood is a top priority for us all,” Warner said. “These types of innovative education opportunities help ensure our children have the tools they need to thrive.”
