HARRISBURG – After listening to Gov. Tom Wolf outline a spending plan that would balloon the state budget to $43.7 billion, a $6.2 billion or 16.6% increase over the current year, Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) issued the following statement:

“Throughout his tenure as governor, Tom Wolf has had an insatiable appetite for spending. Every year, he was seeking higher taxes and higher spending without regard for the taxpayers who foot the bill. And every year, House Republicans had to be the adults in the room to keep spending in check and stand up for the people of this Commonwealth.

“This proposal is exactly why we need to enact the Taxpayer Protection Act, a bill I authored to establish in our state Constitution limitations on how much state spending could increase from one year to the next. The reality is the governor’s proposal doesn’t just overspend in the 2022-23 fiscal year but will inflate the size, scope and cost of government for generations to come.”
