– Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) has been appointed to two key posts by leaders of the House of Representatives. He will serve as a member of the Basic Education Funding Commission and the Port of Pittsburgh Commission for the 2023-24 Legislative Session.
“I am honored to serve not only the people of my district but all Pennsylvanians on these commissions that will continue to play a role in the future success of our Commonwealth,” Warner said.
His appointment to the Basic Education Funding Commission comes on the heels of a recent court decision that declared the state’s funding formula for schools unconstitutional. The General Assembly is now tasked with coming up with a plan that meets the demands of the courts, as well as the needs of students.
“We are truly at a crossroads with public education in the Commonwealth,” Warner said. “The quality of a child’s education should not be based on the ZIP code in which they reside. I am humbled by the opportunity to play a greater role in making the changes we need to ensure the success of our schools, students and communities.”
The commission was created by the Legislature under Act 51 of 2014
and is made up of lawmakers and officials from the Department of Education, as well as an appointee by the governor. This is the first time Warner has been appointed to the commission.
Warner is equally looking forward to his service on the Port of Pittsburgh Commission, on which he previously served from 2016-18.
“The economic opportunity that exists for western Pennsylvania is growing by leaps and bounds,” Warner said. “The Port of Pittsburgh Commission has played an important role in our growth, and I am excited to again have the opportunity to build on that success.”
The mission of the Port of Pittsburgh Commission, which was created by the Legislature in 1992, is to promote the commercial use and development of the inland waterway-intermodal transportation system and to integrate that system into the economic, recreational, environmental and intermodal future of the residents and industries of southwestern Pennsylvania.
