HARRISBURG – Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) today announced $650,000 in state funding has been awarded for the Brownsville Water Street Redevelopment Project.

“It is always encouraging to see new and innovative spaces being developed in our communities, and this project certainly fits the bill,” Warner said. “I am excited to see this project advance for the benefit of our residents and business and community leaders, and I am proud to have joined Sen. Stefano in supporting it.”

“I’m thrilled to see this funding go to a project that will transform a historic building and revitalize commerce in Brownsville. This facility will create an exciting intersection of industry, recreation and creativity that I hope will empower local entrepreneurs while also providing space for community growth. The work happening in Brownsville over the past few years has been amazing and I’m proud that we were able to secure this funding to further economic development,” Stefano said.

The project will entail the renovation of the former Brownsville Telegraph for use as a training facility, microbusiness incubator and store front venues. Construction will consist of a three-story building with maker space, retail space and a greenhouse. The first floor will be open- air space at ground level and will consist of seating, café space in a shipping container and a garden area. The second floor will be open office space with shipping containers for restrooms, storage and two enclosed offices. The third floor will be an open roof deck and greenhouse.

Funding for the project was authorized by lawmakers in the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act and awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. These projects have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are funded by the state and cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs
